What it does

Keys is the identity layer for VIMS. It holds your Nostr keys and the component keys for drives, rooms, and databases, encrypted at rest with a passphrase. Other surfaces embed it in an iframe and ask it to sign — the secret never leaves the vault.

Generate or importNew keys, nsec import, NIP-07 extensions, or NIP-46 bunkers.
02
Encrypted at restPassphrase protection; locked identities cannot sign until unlocked.
03
BackupsExport an encrypted backup file you can restore on any device.
04
NIP-05 handlesClaim [email protected] and resolve it anywhere on Nostr.
05
Component keysEvery drive, room, database, and schedule you own hangs off your identity.
06
Shared vaultOne vault serves chat, drive, team, database, and the rest via postMessage.

How it works

  1. Create or import an identity
  2. Set a passphrase and take a backup
  3. Open any VIMS app — it signs through the vault

FAQ

Can VIMS see my private key?

No. The key is generated and stored in your browser’s vault; signing happens there. VIMS servers never receive it.

What happens if I lose my device?

Restore from your encrypted backup. Without a backup the key cannot be recovered — by design.

Can an agent create keys for me?

Through MCP, yes — vims_nostr_generate_key — but signing and export still require your authorization.

Can I use VIMS Keys in a browser and in VIMS Desktop?

Yes. Open it at its subdomain, or use the same surface inside the VIMS Desktop client — same key, same data.

How does VIMS Keys connect to the rest of VIMS?

It shares your identity from keys.vims.com and is reachable by agents through MCP and Flow, so it works alongside every other VIMS app.
